Since the FCC indecency investigation lapsed in our favor a few weeks ago, a lot of DJs have been asking me for on-the-spot language rulings. While things are looser now, we ain’t Plato’s freaking Retreat. So here are some of the questions that have come up:
You still can’t air any of the obvious curses - fuck shit cunt dick etc etc. And you also can’t air any of the most obvious sexual euphemisms - “blow job,” “giving head,” “getting laid,” “coming,” “hard-on,” “clit, “twat,” “jism,” “balls”… I’ll stop there, even though I’m having a fantastic time here.
The word “asshole” is ok as long as it’s used to mean “jerk” and not “rectum” and as long as it’s not used over and over again
The word “piss” is OK as long as it doesn’t refer to urine. So “pissed off” is OK if it means angry, or if you’re a brit,”taking the piss” is also OK. But “taking a piss” is not OK. The FCC actually got this wrong once - there was a FCC ruling that said that “pissing off somebody” and “pissing on somebody” meant the same thing. Those fucking idiots.
“Doggy Style” is OK in a song as long as that’s as far as the song goes and it’s only used once.
